A sci-fi adventure about an ancient prophecy, an alien race and one boy’s destiny.
A planet in trouble. One boy destined to save them. Alex’s world is turned upside down the day he discovers a strange weapon in his friend's dorm room. Convinced he’s responsible for the death of a teacher, he flees. But when he stumbles upon a spaceship from another planet while on the run, he soon realises the police are not the only ones hunting him. Can he learn to trust an alien race in order to fulfil the prophecy? Join Alex on his sci-fi adventure that will take young readers to another dimension.
The Creation Story
Runaway began as a vivid, cinematic dream — the kind that feels like you’ve just watched a powerful story unfold and can’t wait to share it.
From that dream, the story continued to reveal itself. Alex runs away after believing he has done something terribly wrong, only to encounter an alien and find himself travelling into space, discovering unfamiliar worlds and entirely new ways of being.
As I wrote, I softened some elements of the original dream to make the story suitable for younger readers, while keeping the excitement, mystery and sense of adventure that had made the dream so memorable.
At its heart, Runaway explores fear, escape and the unknown — and what can happen when we step beyond what we know and discover a whole new world of possibility.
